Standard Epic Flying Mounts

Actually you’d already be able to learn the artisan riding skill (300) once you reach level 70 but in most cases you won’t have enough gold by then :-). It’s by far the most expensive skill in the game and offers no discount… no matter how much reputation you’ve got with the various fractions. If you’re proud owner of – now better seat yourself – 5,000 gold you can learn it at different places. Compared to that fortune the standard epic flying mount is a real bargain with just 200 gold. I recently could finally afford the artisan riding skill + the standard epic flying mount *yeeehaaa*. Just like before with the upgrade from a standard land mount to an epic land mount, you basically take the standard flying mount in an armored and better looking version with much more speed: 60% –> 280% flying speed. Druids have to complete a quest in order to learn the swift flying form by the way.

If you’ve got enough reputation with a sepcific fraction you can also buy a special epic flying mount instead. But in this post I just wanna show you the standard epic flying mounts for the Alliance as well as Horde.

Normal Flying Mounts

I’m actually having my normal flying mount already since I first reached level 70 but until now I’ve always forgotten to publish a post about it on my blog :-). A recent comment reminded though (thanks paldin ūüôā ) and now I wanna make up for it ;-).

Once you reached level 70, you can obtain your very own normal flying mount in Wildhammer Stronghold (Alliance) or in Shadowmoon Village (Horde) in the zone Shadowmoon Valley in the Outland. I just hope you saved some gold before you’re attemping to get one :P. While the flying mount itself is pretty cheap (100g) the Expert Riding Skill costs you 800g! Yes, you read correctly :-): 800g in order to be able to fly within the Outland… and the Outland only! You won’t be able to use your flying mount in the old territories such as Kalimdor or the Eastern Kingdoms… just that you know.

Both Alliance and Orc Druids have the advantage of being able to learn how to fly already at level 68 for just 7g at their trainer. Once learned they can transform themselves instantly into flying mounts and have no need for a separate mount (100g) nor the Expert Riding Skill (800g). Yeah I know sounds pretty fair, doesn’t it :P?

Great Green Elekk

Yes, I finally hit level 60 and with it the possibility to purchase my new level 60 mount, the Great Elekk. Apart of the fact that it looks even cooler than my old one (yes that is possible :P) it also gives me a 100% speed boost instead of the 60% boost from all level 40 mounts. First I’m gonna show you an overview of the other level 60 mounts. After that you’ll see me hitting level 60 and getting my new mount, a Great Green Elekk.

Mounts

Finally, I got my beloved mount :-)! I’ve been waiting so long to finally reach level 40 in order to be allowed to obtain a mount. That’s why I’m now as happy as a little child on christmas eve :P! There are certain restrictions before obtaining a mount.

  • You need to be level 40 or above
  • You need to have enough money (riding skill = 90g + mount = 10g; without any reputation discounts)
  • If you wanna get a mount from a different race, you need to gain a certain reputation level with them before buying a mount (Revered)
  • You can only buy a mount from your side of the fraction, so Alliance members can’t buy any Horde mounts and vice versa
  • Paladins and Warlocks need to complete a quest to get their mounts (but don’t need to pay anything for them… lucky bastards :P)

Before I show you my mighty Elekk, I wanna show you the other mounts first.

Flight points

A pretty cool, fast and safe way to travel long distances in WoW is to use the so called flight points. At every major city you’ll find a guy offering this service for some coppers (so far I had to pay 99b oneway). This might seem much in the beginning but later on it’s definately worth it. You save yourself a lot of time and trouble by just flying from one big city to another. Furthermore you can just sit back and enjoy the nature :-).
