Warrior
Advantages
- Can be skilled as tank or damage dealer
- As tank
- Most effective against hard hitting mobs
- Has the skill Taunt which directs the focus of a mob to oneself
- As damage dealer
- Can wear all armor types and use almost all weapons (except wands)
- Lots of health
- Uses rage instead of mana (generates when hit by or when hitting mobs)
- Strong PvP character (with healer support even stronger)
Disadvantages
- As tank
- Leveling in solo play can be slow
- No healing spells/skills (except Draenei)
- Limited buffs for party members

Warlock
Advantages
- Very good solo player character
- Very effective and powerful in dealing long distance damage
- Damage over time (DoT) spells
- Can summon and control demons
- Can create Healthstones (very good health package)
- Can summon other party members
- No need for a mount, can summon it free of charge (has to complete a quest though)
Disadvantages
- Very poor in melee combat
- Rather little health, thus hard to stay alive
- Needs soulshards in order to use some spells/skills
- Lots of skills/spells and the control over the demon can make him hard to handle

Shaman
Advantages
- Can be skilled as healer or damage dealer
- As healer
- Very good healing capabilities for multiple characters
- As damage dealer
- Lots of damage in PvE; less in PvP
- Great party support due to totems (similar to buffs)
- Has buff to walk on and breath under water
- Can resurrect others and even himself (after battle)
- Can transform into a fast travelling animal (40% speed boost) without the need for a mount
Disadvantages
- Totems don’t last long when attacked directly
- Totem management can be tricky
- Depends greatly on mana for both offensive and defensive skills
- Buffs are very limited in time and range
- Difficult to control threat generation

Rogue
Advantages
- Very good melee damage dealer
- Stealth ability to reach places other classes can’t reach as easily
- Ability to open treasure chests and pick locks
- Effective in fleeing mobs
- Uses focus instead of mana
Disadvantages
- No party buffs
- No healing skills/spells
- Can’t wear heavy armor
- Can be hard to stay alive

Priest
Advantages
- Can be skilled as damage dealer or healer
- As damage dealer
- Very effective in giving mana to party members in raids etc.
- As healer
- Most complex healing skills/spells in WoW
- One healing skill/spell for pretty much every situation
- Can shield members from damage
- Can resurrect (after battle)
- Has strong buffs
- If Discipline skilled high survivability in PvP
- Can crowd control undead beings
Disadvantages
- Very poor in melee combat
- Can only wear cloth armor
- Very little health, thus hard to stay alive
- Can be slow to level in solo play
- As damage dealer
- Damage dealt is not as much as with a mage or warlock
- Causes very high amount of threat which makes it hard for a tank in a party

Paladin
Advantages
- Can be skilled as damage dealer, healer or tank
- As damage dealer
- Is rather unpopular in WoW
- As healer
- Very good healing skills for one target and useful life saving skills/spells
- As tank
- Most effective against multiple mobs
- If equipped correctly, also able to tank hard hitting mobs (raids)
- Can wear heavy armor
- Can resurrect (after battle)
- Has lots of useful buffs
- No need to buy a mount, can summon it free of charge (has to complete a quest though)
Disadvantage
- Depends greatly on mana for both offensive and defensive skills
- No real long range skill
- As tank
- Needs tuning/organization of equipment when tanking hard hitting mobs (raids) = difficult tradeoff between strength, stamina and intelligence
- Leveling in solo play can be slow

Mage
Advantages
- Very effective and powerful in attacking multiple mobs at the same time (AoE)
- Very effective and powerful in dealing long distance damage
- Effective in fleeing mobs if the situation becomes too dangerous (blink)
- Can create portals to teleport oneself or others
- Best class for crowd control
- Can produce water (for mana) and food (for health)
Disadvantages
- Very poor in melee combat
- Can only wear cloth armor
- Very little health, thus hard to stay alive
- Can’t heal (except Draenei)

- Humans
- Gnomes
- Undead
- Trolls

Hunter
Advantages
- Very good solo player character
- Very effective and powerful in dealing long distance damage
- Useful in pulling mobs in instances
- Decent crowd control
- Good PvP character
- Can choose between several pets
- Can wear almost all armors (except plate)
Disadvantages
- Rather poor in melee combat compared to distance weapons
- Possibly the most hated class in WoW; considered newbie class

Druid
Advantages
- Can transform himself into various forms, thus mimicking various classes/roles (damage dealer, healer, tank)
- Can heal
- Can resurrect others (even during a battle)
- Has some buffs
- At high level, very strong PvP character
- Is immune against spells that disarm or change shape when in animal form
- Can transform into a fast travelling animal (40% speed boost) without the need for a mount
Disadvantages
- Is never as good as the corresponding class/role when transforming into a specific form
- As tank
- Can’t use shields and skills related to them (shield slam, shield bash etc.)
- Resurrection works just every 20 mins.
- Is restricted in use of items and spells while transformed
- All those forms and skills can be somewhat overwhelming to handle
